NASA has recently released a map which shows the temperature changes for the 2000-2009 decade. The map also shows how much colder or warmer a region was on average compared to the 1951-1980 period.

NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies found that the average global temperature on Earth has rised by around 1.4 degrees since 1880. They use data from 6,300 meteorological stations from around the world, ship-based and satellite observations of sea surface temperature and Antarctic research station measurements.

According to Nasa, “These three data sets are loaded into a computer analysis program – available for public download from the GISS web site – that calculates trends in temperature anomalies relative to the average temperature for the same month during 1951-1980.

According to NASA, Earth is warmer today than it was 130 years ago.

Earlier, World Meteorological Organization indicated that 2010 is among the three hottest years on record and that final analysis in early 2011 will show whether 2010 will be the warmest year ever. WMO also said that 2001-2010 has been the warmest decade since 1850 when historical record keeping began.
