5 Less Known Environmental Issues In China
According to all statistics, China is the most polluted country in the world. The country experience great economic development, but it must be paid with polluted air, water, soil etc. Most of the problems that China faces are well known to the world. Here are some of the less exploited issues.
1. Lack of Pollution Control
Although Chinese government tries to create an image of country which cares for the eco-system, facts do not prove that. Chinese factories use 20% more energy than factories from any other country all around the world, while ethylene producers need fantastic 70% more energy! The government just have to efficient mechanism (or do not want to have one) to control the pollution in the country.
2. Growth of Emissions
The lack of efficient pollution control, of course, gives very negative results. All countries allegedly make efforts for reducing of pollution, and China is amongst them, but they do not meet the expectation at all. Instead of reducing the emission, Chinese industry make it worse, as they grow 2–4 times greater than expected. There were predictions that United States will be the world’s greater polluter until 2020, but China overtook them in 2007.
3. US Companies Are the Greatest Polluters There
Maybe the reason why China overtook the United States is the fact that American industry moves to the cheaper Chinese labor market. Despite the cheap work force, they do not have to meet high environmental standards as well.
4. Increasing of Dust Storms
Things become worse when there are dust storms. They have been increased after the industry boom, but also they are more dangerous than before. Should they “pass” near factories, they pick up airborne toxins and become deadly force against those breath them.
5. Need of New Power Plants
Finally, the end of this awful situation is not on the rise. There are more and more factories in China they emerge the need of power, so the government now faces the challenge of opening new power plants in order to satisfy their needs. And then, they will pollute like the others, there will be no efficient control system, there will be more dust storms… the circle is round, isn’t it?
